Holi 2010 - Sugar Land, Texas

______________________________________________________________________________________Holi, Holi, an Indian festival celebrating the arrival of spring, was held at Oyster Creek Park in Sugar Land, Texas. Being the proud owner of a newly acquired Hasselblad, I wanted to try something different by using this beast of a camera to photograph an activity punctuated by running, throwing color (colored powder thrown and smeared on your friends) and water.

11,000 people showed up for the largest Holi celebration in the United States.

As for the photos, as you can see, I'm not the greatest at toning. Also, the film is a small saga in itself - I mailed them to a lab in San Antonio on a Monday following the Sunday event. Usually mail takes a day to travel the three-hour distance between the two cities. After receiving nothing by Friday, I called the lab to find out they hadn't received any film. Totally bummed, I received a phone call the following week to let me know the film had arrived and was being processed. I received it days later. Note to self - always pay the little bit of extra money to track important packages, especially film!
