In an attempt to dust off some of my multimedia skills, I decided to attend what turned out to be a very sparsely attended three-competitor grito competition in Bay Town, Texas about three weeks ago. For those who don't know, gritar is a Spanish verb that means "to yell" or "to scream". It's done frequently at the beginning of Norteño songs and is a catharsis of sorts. It probably didn't help the event that it was held in the middle of a summer day in a Houston suburb. Nonetheless, the three competitors the emcee could scrape up did their best. You can listen to their efforts by pressing the player at the bottom of each photograph.
