Berries and kiddies

For the paper's Northwest Life section, I was sent to the east of Seattle to look at a few places in Carnation and Duval that would be fun for the whole family. The first was a place where folks can pick their own strawberries and raspberries. The other spot is an amusement park-type place with a train ride, petting zoo, etc.

Hispanic Seafair

Every summer throughout the city of Seattle, different Seafair events take place. My assignment last Saturday was to make pictures at the Hispanic version. In a way, it felt like being back home in San Antonio during Fiesta only with less dancing and less drunkeness and less heat. I was only really happy with this photo I got on the way back to the car.

Dwarf Games

Last weekend, I photographed the Dwarf Athletic Association of America's annual meet at Roosevelt High School in Seattle. The meet coincides with the meeting of the 50th annual Little People of America's convention here in town. Below are a couple of my favorite images.

Summer football practice

These images are from an assignment to go and photograph a couple of players who were invited to participate in the Washington State high school all-star game. I didn't get much information from the photo request, only to look for either a portrait or action of each player. The two guys were in the middle of practice when I showed up so I didn't get to talk to them much either. Nonetheless, it was a good opportunity to brush off my peak-action skills and make my first official portrait for The Seattle Times (this is the image that ran in a section tab for Snohomish county.)

Volunteer Park Cafe & Marketplace

One of my first assignments was to make pictures for a restaurant review. I don't know how other photojournalists feel about shooting food, but I never mind. I love food and rarely if ever miss a meal. Its especially great when the food is well-prepared and the environment leads itself to good pictures. The photos almost make themselves. Great food has great personality.

Some catching up...

Hello everyone, I'll be using this blog to show some of the work I've been making during my internship at The Seattle Times. I welcome questions and comments and look forward to hearing what you have to say.

Cheers,

Eric Kayne
